Broad Applications of Forestry Mulching
Right-Of-Way Clearing and Maintenance:
Forestry mulching is a technique we employe to clear and maintain the right-of-way for roads, highways, pipelines, and utility lines. Typically, our methods involve the complete elimination of standing trees, stumps, and vegetation with the aim of improving the soil quality.
Land Clearing:
Our approach is suitable for industrial, commercial, and residential land clearing projects, including site preparation and development, brush cutting and clearing, creation of recreational trails, nature trails, as well as ATV access trails.
Wetlands and Riparian Habitat Conservation:
Forestry mulching has gained popularity among non-profit riparian conservation organizations, government agencies, hunt clubs, and private landowners for maintaining habitats for various animals such as pheasants, doves, elk, deer, and more. The process of maintaining an animal habitat entails different aspects such as food, water, shelter, and space, and numerous products can assist in reclaiming and preserving wildlife habitats.
Food: Forestry mulchers and mowers are frequently used to eliminate underbrush and invasive species like buckthorn and multiflora rose, enabling the renewal of grasses and other sources of food.
Water: Forestry mulchers and tree shears can be utilized to restore access to water sources that have been obstructed due to tree and understory growth, providing animals with access to water.
Shelter and Space: Mulching can eradicate invasive underbrush that hinders the growth of grasses that certain animals require for shelter, breeding, escaping the summer heat, and protecting themselves from cold temperatures.
Invasive Species Control:
With the help of Tennessee Invasive Plant Council, we constantly monitor established & emerging invasive species across the Tennessee Valley including: Vines, Trees, Shrubs, Grasses, Herbs, and Aquatic plants. We routinely eradicate invasive plant species, such as:
Threat Level- Established (Common Names)
Tree of Heaven
Mimosa, Silk tree, Silky Acacia
Empress Tree, Princess Tree, Royal Paulownia
Bradford Pear, Callery Pear
Threat Level- Emerging (Common Names)
Chinese Parasol Tree, Phoenix Tree, Varnish Tree
Chinaberry
Chinese Tallow tree
These types of trees can establish themselves in natural habitat, absorb vast amounts of groundwater, and necessitate their removal using mulchers to restore the native habitat or preserve the water table.
Invasive insects like pine beetles can also cause severe damage to forests, leaving behind decaying trees with diminishing timber value and creating falling hazards if they lose their ability to withstand wind.
The proactive mulching services we provide alleviates stress on native tree species caused by overcrowding, making them less susceptible to invasive species attacks.
Additionally, proactively mulching invasive species in place helps control the spread of invasive plants, insects, and fungus. Our mulching process discharges the material downward and within a relatively confined area, in contrast to competitors’ methods such as using rotary cutters, which can laterally spread pine beetles or other invasive species into nearby healthy trees.
Wildfire Prevention and Management:
Mulching should be both proactive and reactive in order to mitigate the risks of wildfires. Our proactive mulching services reduce the potential for wildfires by eliminating small leafy plants, fallen or rotten trees, and other fuel sources.
By removing these seasonal fuel repositories, the potential for fire is reduced. Additionally, our mulching process creates a coarse grind finish that can be used to create a more controlled burn.
On the other hand, our reactive mulching services can be used for cutting fire lines (fire breaks) during active fires. This helps to mitigate the spread of the fire and reduce overall costs associated with fire mitigation. Our Forestry mulchers can also be used to leave minimal clean-up requirements.
After the fire is out, clean-up efforts can be facilitated by using our tracked forestry mulching machines, mulching attachments, and excavators with a mulching attachment to provide a top layer of mulch. This layer can prevent soil erosion on slopes and minimize water pollution.
